LEVOIT Core 200S-RF Genuine Replacement Filter (1 Pack) product format referenced in this guide

Short answer: every 6–8 months, plus a pre-filter clean every few weeks

LEVOIT’s user manual for the LEVOIT Core 200S says the filter should be replaced every 6–8 months, sooner or later depending on how often you run the purifier. Between replacements, the one part you can maintain yourself is the outer nylon pre-filter, which the manual says to clean every 2–4 weeks with a soft brush or a vacuum hose. You never wash the filter with water.

The genuine replacement is LEVOIT’s Core 200S-RF 3-stage filter. As of Oct 20, 2026, it was listed at $25.99 on LEVOIT.com and $19.58 one-time on Amazon (list price $25.99), with a 4.8-star average from about 7,598 ratings on the Amazon listing (ASIN B08L971Z4L). Prices change, so check the current listing.

We have not tested this purifier or its filters. Everything below comes from LEVOIT’s current US manual for the Core 200S (LAP-C201S-AUSR), LEVOIT’s product pages, and the Amazon listings, checked Oct 20, 2026.

What is inside the Core 200S filter

The manual describes the filter as one cylinder with three stages:

StageWhat LEVOIT says it doesCan you clean it?
Nylon pre-filter (outer sleeve)Captures large particles such as dust, lint, fibers, hair and pet fur, and helps extend the life of the filterYes: soft brush or vacuum hose, every 2–4 weeks
Main filterFilters smaller particles such as fine dust and pollenNo: “Do not clean”
High-efficiency activated carbonAdsorbs smoke, odors and fumesNo: “Do not clean”

Because the main and carbon layers are not cleanable, the whole cylinder is replaced as one part. The pre-filter clean is what keeps it working until then.

When to replace it

The schedule

LEVOIT’s manual and the replacement filter listing both give 6–8 months. The manual adds two qualifiers:

  • Usage changes the timing. How many hours a day you run the purifier changes how fast the filter loads up.
  • Air conditions change it too. Using the purifier in an environment with relatively high pollution may mean replacing the filter more often, “even if” the Check Filter indicator is off.

You can also check remaining filter life in the VeSync app, according to the manual.

The Check Filter indicator

The Check Filter indicator lights up red as a reminder to check the filter. The manual says it should come on within 6–8 months, depending on use, and that “you may not need to replace your filter yet” when it lights, but you should check it. LEVOIT’s troubleshooting table explains both edge cases:

  • It lit before 6 months: you run the purifier frequently, so it turns on sooner.
  • It has not lit within 8 months: you do not run it often, so it takes longer.

Signs it is time, per the manual

LEVOIT lists four signs you may need a new filter:

  1. Increased noise when the purifier is on
  2. Decreased airflow
  3. Unusual odors
  4. A visibly clogged filter

If airflow drops or the unit seems louder, the troubleshooting table also suggests simpler checks first: clean the pre-filter, confirm about 15 inches (38 cm) of clearance on every side, and make sure the unit sits on a hard, flat, level surface. Running a quieter setting overnight is a separate question; see the quietest air purifier setting for sleeping in a dorm.

What that means for a school year

A typical academic year runs about nine months. If you start with a fresh filter at move-in and run the purifier most days, LEVOIT’s 6–8 month range lands in the spring semester, so plan for one replacement during the year. If you only run it at night or a few days a week, the indicator may not come on before move-out. Either way, budget for it: at the Oct 20, 2026 prices above, one to two filters a year is roughly $20–$52.

How to replace the Core 200S filter, step by step

These steps combine the manual’s “Replacing the Filter” and “Getting Started” sections:

  1. Unplug the purifier. The manual starts every maintenance step this way.
  2. Flip it over and remove the filter cover. Twist the cover on the base counterclockwise and lift it off.
  3. Remove the old filter.
  4. Clean out the housing. Use a vacuum hose to remove dust or hair inside the purifier. The manual says not to use water or liquids.
  5. Unwrap the new filter completely. The new filter ships in plastic packaging. Remove it before installing: LEVOIT’s troubleshooting table lists a filter left in its packaging as a cause of reduced airflow and unusual noise.
  6. Place the new filter in the housing, then put the cover back on and twist it clockwise until it snaps shut.
  7. Turn the purifier upright, set it on a flat, stable surface with about 15 inches of clearance on all sides, and plug it in.
  8. Reset the Check Filter indicator (next section).

How to reset the Check Filter light

With the purifier switched on, press and hold the Sleep Mode button for 3 seconds. The Check Filter indicator blinks 3 times and turns off once it is reset. The manual says to do the same if you changed the filter before the light came on, and notes you can also reset it in the VeSync app.

If the light is still on after a replacement, the indicator was not reset; it does not detect a new filter on its own.

Choosing the right replacement filter

Match the model number

LEVOIT’s genuine filter for this purifier is model Core 200S-RF (UPC 810043372893). LEVOIT.com sells it as the “Core 200S-P 3-Stage Replacement Filter”, and the box contains “1 x Levoit Core 200S-RF Original Filter.” The Amazon listing (ASIN B08L971Z4L) names the same Core 200S-RF part and lists it at 7.28 × 7.28 × 5.75 inches. A 2-pack listing (ASIN B09ZQNKK78) also exists if you want a spare for the year.

LEVOIT’s filter page describes it as “Compatible for Core 200S-P only,” and the purifier itself is often listed as Core 200S or Core 200S-P. Check the model on the label on your purifier or the cover of your manual. Other LEVOIT purifiers, such as the Core 300, Core Mini and Vital series, use different filters.

Genuine vs off-brand

The manual says that to maintain the purifier’s performance you should only use official LEVOIT filters. LEVOIT’s filter listing adds that its Filter Life Indicator and built-in algorithm only work with authentic filters, and that non-genuine filters may lead to delayed replacement and damage to the purifier’s motor. Those are manufacturer claims; we have not compared genuine and third-party filters. If a cheaper off-brand filter tempts you, weigh that warning and the purifier’s warranty terms first.

Keep the filter from wearing out early

The manual lists a few things that damage the filter in ways a replacement schedule does not cover:

  • Humidity: use the purifier where humidity is below 85% RH. In very humid conditions, the manual says the surface of the filter can become moldy.
  • Essential oils: do not add essential oils to the purifier or filter, and do not use diffusers near it. The manual says the filter becomes damaged and will eventually release an unpleasant smell.
  • Storage over breaks: if you will not use the purifier for an extended period, such as over the summer, the manual says to wrap both the purifier and the filter in plastic packaging and store them in a dry place.

When you should not buy a filter yet

  • The light just came on. It is a reminder to check. Look at the filter, clean the pre-filter, and replace it if it looks clogged or you notice the signs above.
  • The real problem is placement or clearance. A purifier squeezed against a bed or wall can sound and perform worse with a new filter too.
  • The room is too big for the purifier. A new filter does not change the unit’s rated capacity. Check the room-size math in what size air purifier do I need for a dorm room.
  • You want cooling, not filtration. A fresh filter will not make a hot room feel cooler. Compare formats in dorm fan vs air purifier.

Where the products fit

For the filter, buy the genuine LEVOIT Core 200S-RF replacement filter: match the model number and ASIN above on the current listing, or buy directly from LEVOIT.com. We list it as a text recommendation only, with no store link. If you do not own the purifier yet, the LEVOIT Core 200S air purifier review covers who it suits, and the dorm room comfort essentials shortlist puts it next to fans and a sleep mask. Our evidence boundary

This guide is based on LEVOIT’s current US user manual for the Core 200S (LAP-C201S-AUSR), LEVOIT’s Core 200S-P replacement filter and purifier product pages, and the Amazon listings for ASINs B08L971Z4L (filter) and B08FJ678YK (purifier), all checked Oct 20, 2026. We did not test the purifier or any filter, measure airflow or filter life, or evaluate air-quality or health outcomes. Filter lifespan and stage descriptions are manufacturer claims and are attributed as such.

FAQ

How often should I replace the LEVOIT Core 200S filter?

Can I wash the LEVOIT Core 200S filter?

No. The manual says not to clean the filter with water or other liquids. You can clean the outer nylon pre-filter every 2–4 weeks with a soft brush or vacuum hose, but the main and activated carbon layers are not cleanable and are replaced as one unit.

Which replacement filter fits the Core 200S?

LEVOIT's genuine filter for this purifier is model Core 200S-RF (UPC 810043372893), sold on LEVOIT.com as the Core 200S-P 3-Stage Replacement Filter. Match the model on your purifier's label or manual before you order; Core 300, Core Mini and Vital models use different filters.

With the purifier on, press and hold the Sleep Mode button for 3 seconds. The Check Filter indicator blinks 3 times and turns off once it is reset. You can also reset it in the VeSync app.

Why is the filter light still on after I changed the filter?

The indicator does not reset itself when you swap the filter. LEVOIT's troubleshooting table says to reset it manually by holding the Sleep Mode button for 3 seconds, or through the VeSync app.
